WP5 : Regulatory frameworks

Regulatory frameworks must be in place before ship-based carbon capture (SBCC) can be deployed at full scale. We will bring together technology developers and three major class societies – namely, Bureau Veritas Norway AS, Lloyds Register and DNV – to ensure the technology’s design is in line with current safety regulations.

This work package will also make use of the analyses of energy efficiency indexes – EEDI/EEXI – being studied in work package 3 and life cycle assessments from work package 4.

Integrating safety assessments and regulatory aspects from the early stages of design will ensure that SBCC implementation is successful in the near future.

This will allow ship owners and SBCC developers to address any potential issues at early design stages and derisk SBCC for future approvals.
