A Ship-Based Carbon Capture prototype developed in the Netherlands by Carbotreat / VDL Carbon Capture was installed on board the SEAPEAK ARWA, an LNG-powered carrier chartered by TotalEnergies, in September 2023. This video describes details of the first capture demonstration campaign, and expands on related studies carried out by the EverLoNG CCUS project.
In this informative video, Frank Sanders of Carbotreat talks us through a ship-based carbon capture prototype at the company’s base at Almelo in The Netherlands. He shows us the three main units and how they work: the carbon capture unit, the CO2 liquefaction unit and finally the CO2 storage unit.
The EverLoNG project aims to encourage the uptake of SBCC by demonstrating its use on board LNG-fuelled ships and moving it closer to market readiness. Our research will optimise the technology and consider how best to integrate it into existing ship and port infrastructure.
